I wanted to share this about Dan Fogelberg.

I was a freshman at the University of Illinois when I heard Dan on the college radio station. I really wanted to meet him. I called information and asked the operator if i could have his address. She gave it to me. I went to his house and knocked on the door. He answered and I said “Are you Dan Fogelberg?” He said “Yes.” I said “Gee, I thought you would have a beard.” He said “Why?” I told him “Because on the radio your voice sounds hairy.” He laughed and invited me in.
I told him I was a singer/songwriter, too, and that I wished I had somewhere to perform. He was very nice to me. He played a song he’d just finished. We sang some Beatles tunes—I sang harmony. I guess he must have liked my voice because he told me to go to the Red Herring Coffeehouse and tell them he sent me. That was how we met and became friends.

Dan was ready to be a star when I met him. He was a brilliant songwriter, musician, and performer. He was charming, good looking, and knowledgeable about the music business. I was in awe of him and rightly so.

He left school a year after we met and became famous.

It was good to have known you, Dan.
Rest peacefully.
